Gannet Colony
Muriwai

Most accessible Gannet colony in NZ. A short walk from the car park is a viewing platform.
From August to March gannets nest here each year.
Muriwai Beach extends 60 kilometres to the north, great surfing.

Mt Manaia

Whangarei Heads

Mount Manaia 30 kilometres southeast of Whangarei city on the Whangarei Heads peninsula.
Maintained by the Dept. of Conservation it features a well-maintained 1½ hour track to the summit.

Summit 420 metres, outstanding views of the Marsden Point Oil Refinery, Bream Bay and the Hauraki Gulf to the south, Whangarei Harbour to the west and the Poor Knights Islands and Northland coast to the north.
